The Dawn to Dusk is a demanding day race designed for solo, two, three and four person teams to complete in 8 to 12 hours. It is held in the beautiful Santa Margarita Lake and the Santa Lucia National Forest, an area known to locals but few others. Santa Margarita Lake is nestled in between jagged sandstone pinnacles, rolling hills and proud oak trees of the Santa Lucia National Forrest. On a clear day one can see the coastline and the Sierra mountain range silhouette. Racing in this terrain isn't easy, the mountain bike and run sections include single track, fire road, road, even some bushwhacking and require endurance and dedication to accomplish.

The Dawn to Dusk encompasses the major disciplines found in longer adventure racing competitions -- including navigation throughout and a ropes section. The Dawn to Dusk provides a challenge to experienced adventure racers and those who are new to adventure racing. It is recommended that participants have some experience with navigation and
endurance activities.

It includes:

  • 8 to 10 miles of kayaking
  • 25 to 35 miles of mountain biking on road, single track and fire roads
  • 10 to 15 miles of trail running
  • Navigation/Orienteering (Map and Compass)
  • Rope Challenges

Optional Live Team Tracking available for the Central Coast Dawn-to-Dusk 8-12 hr Adventure Race

As part of the AR Festival, California AR Association (CARA) will show case the event tracking from TrackMe360 that will be available for all CARA events in the 2010 series, starting with this event.  Here's how it works:

    * Teams pay a small fee to "link" their SPOT to the event live tracking map
    * Teams bring their SPOT to the race, and keep it in TRACKING mode throughout the race
    * Fans, friends, and family can track their team online as the race unfolds

If you are a racer but don't own a SPOT, and would like to be tracked, you can:

    * Buy a SPOT, and if you are a member of CARA, TrackMe360 offers a great CARA member promotion on the new SPOT-2.
    * Rent a SPOT from TrackMe360.

To become a CARA member, go here.  To get the CARA promotion, go here (members only).

We will have a monitor showing the live tracking at the event venue for everyone to follow the race that way also (as long as our satellite Internet connection works as advertised!)
